Aquaduck’s new ‘Secrets, Scandals and Sunsets’ tour splashes down 16th October 2020

 

The iconic Gold Coast Aquaduck is famous for its family friendly amphibious city tour and river cruise, but now the tour operator is bringing a new sunset tour to the Gold Coast and the commentary is a first of its kind. The 1.5hr Secrets Scandals and Sunsets tour splashes down on 16th October and is the Aquaduck like you have never seen it before. The unique commentary includes the weird, wacky and sometimes unbelievable tales about the people and events that formed the foundation of the glitter strip as we see it today. Recommended for guests from 8 years and above, passengers enjoy light refreshments on board, watching the sunset and taking selfies as they have a laugh while listening to the stories of our city’s colourful history. Tours depart at 5pm on Friday and Saturday evenings. Bookings are essential. 

 

Like many tourism businesses, Aquaduck was closed for 3 months during the height of the COVID 19 pandemic. During this period, Managing Director Sarah Colgate and the Aquaduck team were hard at work coming up with the idea to offer something new and refreshing to inject some life into the Gold Coast tourism landscape. “Offering a sunset cruise has been on the cards for some time. However, COVID 19 forced us to look at what we were doing in our business and how we could change it to attract different markets. The sunset cruise shone through as a great option worth developing” explained Colgate.

The Aquaduck has been a popular must-do family friendly activity for both visitors and locals for years but Sarah wanted to open up the market to a new audience with this edgier, slightly cheeky tour. “I really wanted a tour that would be attractive to S.E. Queensland and the domestic market. I wanted it to be less about offering a family experience and more suited towards adults, couples, groups of friends getting out enjoying a laugh and a drink together on the gorgeous Gold Coast Waterways and what better to enjoy sunset in this special part of South East Queensland. It’s been a tough year for all of us and I feel it’s important we remember to let our hair down a little and have a laugh at ourselves” said Colgate.

 

Information for the commentary was compiled from a range of sources including personal experiences, online sites, historical articles and a lot of stories provided by long term Gold Coast locals. There’s a lot of juicy tales on offer but whether it’s a secret? a scandal? or a furphy? only you can decide…
